One of the most important things to do when you begin to homeschool is to find a support group. Most of your learning will come from those relationships.

Support groups offer enrichment classes, park days, field trips, curriculum sharing, learning pods, and most importantly, friends for life!

Be sure to remember that both you and your kids must fit in and be comfortable with your new friends. They will be your lifeline when difficult homeschooling days sprout (and they WILL!)

LET'S #MATH TOGETHER, SHALL WE!

The ability to pay for #college should not deter a driven, intelligent student, who for all we know may just improve humanity as a whole.

However, #collegecosts between #tuition, #books, and boarding can become a rate- limiting step in someone's life goals.

One way to lessen those costs is to take advantage of the ability to earn college credits while in #highschool.

So say a student is dual enrolled in 2 classes per semester (we are starting easily and slowly). In one year the student can earn 18 credits because usually college classes are 3 credits each. So, 3 semesters x 2 classes per semester x 3 credit per class equals 18.

At @MDCollege, for example, one credit costs $118.22. To that we will add book costs which are about $150 to $200 per book.

So...one class is 3 credits x $118 that equals $354. Let's say your book is about $150, that will make that one class cost $504. Let's just say $500.

One semester taking only 2 classes will be $1000.

For one year of 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer) that is $3000!!!!

Ok...now... let's do the same summer after 9th grade, 10th grade, 11th and 12h grade.

$3000x3= $9,000!!!!!!!

Want some more math???? Assume your student is able and willing to take 4 classes per semester during high school... ANDDDDDDDD ... I will let you do that math!

Dual enrollment is not for every child and classes after all are college level classes SO I am definitely not recommending this for ALL HOMESCHOOLERS.

If you have the money laying around and you don't need this help, then consider encouraging your child regardless and giving your child this amount of money for them to #invest. That's material for another post but you get the picture!

A simple, oh well, you "tried your best" and leave it at that.

May our week be productive and peaceful.

May we find ourselves forgiving our shortcomings and trusting to be where we need to be.

Whatever you do to refill your vessel of peace and contentment, remember it will benefit your entire family.

How can we give what we don't have?

#Parents in general, but more so #homeschooling parents must drop some to-do's and head to recharging, replenishing, and fully relaxing as often as possible.

The job is arduous! We wear many hats during a given day.

The benefits of a quick recharge with a cup of coffee, a chat with a friend, or a few pages of a book multiply exponentially.

Homeschoolers in high school! You can still take

Homeschoolers in high school! You can still take advantage of earning some college credits at @MDCollege this semester.
There is a miniterm which is 8 weeks starting in October.

Don't know where to start? I would recommend starting with an easy class.

New students venturing into an 8 week term could take SLS 1510 which is a college skills class called Preparing For Student Success. This is a 3 credit class at the college level which transfers as a half credit for high school.

Tuition is free. Books are free!

YES! They are constantly learning whatever sparks their interests or needs.
YES YES YES… their creativity was certainly nurtured: one is a photographer/ videographer the other was a music artist.
Done
“To protect them from the health dangers in our schools….” you would think I wrote this one TODAY!
DEFINITELY accomplished goal #5
I tried as much as I could to hold on to #6.
YEAP! Accomplished! ✅

I highly recommend new homeschoolers to make a list of WHY’s. For many different reasons, including societal pressure, there are times in which we question our decision to homeschool. Having that list to go back to can keep you on track and encouraged. Plus you will find it amongst your papers 17 years later! What a treasure!

Perhaps 2020 is the year you decided to give homeschooling a try. Maybe you have a high schooler who is thriving at home and you are considering to homeschool him/her.

High Schoolers who are homeschooled have time and energy to dedicate to their interests, passions, entrepreneurial ventures, or vegetative needs!

Yes, they vegetate. I painfully learned to accept that is part of teenagehood.

If you are considering homeschooling your high schooler, then know they can earn high school credits and college credits at the same time through different programs such as dual enrollment, CLEP tests, #APtests, and other credit awarding tests.

#ThankfulTuesday

I think some of my fondest memories are specific moments when I realized someone other than my family believed in me and admired me! That is so powerful.

When I advise #highschoolers to venture out into the world of #dualenrollment, I passionately try to convey to them how much I believe in their determination and dedication, hoping they see themselves through the lens we see them.

It is nerve wrecking to send your child into the world where they must rely on their own strengths. It is more so to send someone else’s child into #collegeclasses while they are still in #highschool.

@IvetteBorrello trusted my #guidance and her daughter is out in the world reaching her goals!

I am thankful for such opportunities.

All three of my children liked #reading. Many #homeschooling days were converted into marathon reading days because I would rather let them enjoy the pleasure of reading, plus they were puppy-face experts.

Oh #homeschooling a #teenager! What fun!
Well, first you are lucky they are out of bed by lunch.

Then you are quite hopeful if they walked into the kitchen in a good mood.

You are doing really well so far!

Now comes the ultimate trial...yes.. you know it... you have to tactfully mention they have work to do, dual enrollment classes to take, chores, piano practice..and so on.

Here is the good news: frontal cortex eventually does fully develop!

Hang in there!
